When I heard some of my friends talking about how army football players can go to the NFL, I had to learn more. I decided to do some research and get a better understanding of how this works. After looking it up, I discovered that there is a kind of a “loophole” for army football players to get into the NFL.
The first thing I learned is that it’s not always easy for an army football player to join an NFL team. There are a few things that need to be in place in order for this to happen. Firstly, the player needs to be medically discharged from the army. Secondly, the player needs to have at least three years of service-time. Thirdly, even then there is no guarantee that an NFL team will be willing to take them on.
The NFL also set up the “Military AcademiesFootball Player Pathway Program” which makes it a little easier for army football players to get in. This program provides a spot for players to participate in the NFL Combine and mini-camps. These avenues provide a way for players to showcase their skills and potentially get drafted into a NFL team.
What a great opportunity this is for these army football players. It’s something that they really couldn’t have done before the pathway program was in place. And, it’s not just a foot-in-the-door opportunity either. There is a real chance for the players to demonstrate their skills and end up playing in the NFL.
Now I know this isn’t without its challenges. There is a lot of competition and an army football player has to be at the top of their game to make it through the process. But if an army football player can get to a certain level of skill, then they stand a good chance of being picked up for an NFL team.
The other thing I think is great about the Program is that it doesn’t just give the opportunity to play to army football players. It gives them an opportunity to prove themselves. They don’t just get put on the team, they get the chance to show everyone that they have what it takes to play professionally. What a wonderful concept.
Outside of the Military Academies Football Player Pathway Program, there are other ways for army football players to make an impact in the NFL. For example, some teams may bring on retired veterans to give motivational speeches, hold practices, or manage scouting for the team. Additionally, army football players may be invited to take part in college-level programming or pre-draft events.
The last thing I learned about army football players getting into the NFL is that it may take time. It may take several years of service, or a couple of tries at the combine before they get picked up by an NFL team. The important thing is to never give up. If they stay dedicated and determined then there is a good chance that an army football player can make it to the NFL.
It’s pretty amazing what opportunities stand open to army football players now. They have pathways to the NFL that they never had before. If an army football player works hard enough and shows the scouts that they can play at a high level then I’m sure they’ll get their chance. I think it would be pretty cool to see someone from the army go through this process and make it to the NFL.
