It’s been over a hundred years since the National Football League (NFL) was first established. I remember during my childhood days, hearing incredible stories about the original teams that started out strong and etched their names in football history. It feels like just yesterday when the NFL’s first official season kicked off, and since then, teams have come and gone, but there will always be original NFL teams to remember.
My dad used to tell me stories of his favourite football teams. He’d never stop raving about how the Akron Pros captivated the nation with their unique style of play, proving that the underdogs could play with the big boys. I’m sure he still wears his old Akron Pros jersey with pride. My best friend’s dad was always talking about how the Canton Bulldogs won the NFL championship in 1922 and 1923. It was tales like these that had me in awe.
Seeing the photos of the old players and teams in the newspaper was just amazing to me. I could close my eyes and almost imagine myself being in the stands, shouting and clapping as the teams put their utmost effort and pushed beyond limits to win their games.
Not every team was fortunate enough to become popular, but each team had a unique story to tell. For instance, the mortality rate of the Racine Legion’s players was one of the highest in the entire league, and yet, they persevered. They stood together through thick and thin, and to this day, no other team has matched their spirit and passion for victory.
I can never forget the two original teams that started it all – the Decatur Staleys and the Chicago Cardinals. The Decatur Staleys were formed by the A.E. Staley Company, and they beat almost every team on their way to the NFL championship in 1920. On the other side of the spectrum, there was the Chicago Cardinals, who also put up a fight and won several championships in the 1920s and 1930s.
These teams are the very foundation on which the entire NFL was built. I’m sure that if they could see the league today, they would be both surprised and proud. The NFL has come so far from where it began, but the original teams should always be remembered and honored.
Thanks to the ingenuity of the original NFL teams, fans can enjoy games with state-of-the-art technology and revolutionary designs. I love the feeling I get while watching these teams play, with their dynamic moves and bold strategies. Back in the day, the original teams had to rely on nothing more than a strong defense and a fast offense. Now, teams have added layers of complexity and structure, which makes watching football games even more exciting.
Every original NFL team has its own story and each fan has their favourite team. From the Akron Pros to the Canton Bulldogs, to the Decatur Staleys and the Chicago Cardinals, every fan has a different connection to these teams and it’s what makes the NFL so amazing.
Talking about football games today, I think that everyone can agree that the original NFL teams started a league like no other. Every team has a complex history and culture with critical innovations that have made football the wonderful sport we all know and love today. Even though the original teams may have been disbanded or relocated, their impact and legacy still lives on in the NFL today.
More recently, teams have been expanding their offerings to include more ways for fans to get involved. With special fan events, exclusive merchandise, and exclusive communities, fans from all over the world can easily connect with their favourite teams. It’s amazing how much the NFL has changed in the past hundred years.
The original teams made it possible for us to enjoy football today. They introduced a sport that resonates with us on an emotional level and allowed us to unite with others around the world. So every time you turn on a game, take a moment to remember the legacy of the original NFL teams and appreciate how we can live and love football today.
