As a college football fan, I get really excited when the season begins every fall. I always make sure to check out the schedule and plan which games I’m going to attend or watch on TV. Something I’ve noticed is that college football games are definitely longer than NFL games.
When I’m attending a college football game, I have to budget more time than the NFL. The pre-game events are usually longer and more involved. There are usually a lot more marching bands and pep rallies. And the halftime show often lasts for at least fifteen minutes – if not more.
When the actual game starts, there is more time during commercials and breaks between plays. It can take a while to get the defense properly set up on the field. And, compared to the NFL, the clock in college football runs differently. During the last two minutes of each half, the clock only stops for timeouts and certain penalties. This means the game can run for a while until the final whistle.
These extra minutes can feel like hours when you’re watching or attending the game. This is especially true if you get really wrapped up in the game. And I definitely do! The pre-game events, halftime show, and extra minutes during the game all add up. While NFL games usually end within three hours, college football games can run as long as four.
Apart from the extra time, the atmosphere of college football games also adds to the experience. I love the cheering crowds, the energy, the passionate fans – it’s as if the whole city’s in on the game. Fans of both teams usually stay until the very end, and it’s amazing to see the level of devotion and emotion people bring to the sport.
What I appreciate most about college football games is that there’s never a dull moment. You can always count on something new and exciting happening. You hear catchy new songs and chants the crowd sings together. People even dress up in unusual costumes. Every game is a unique experience, and it always leaves me looking forward to the next game.
I noticed this the first time I attended a college football game – it was unlike anything I’d ever seen before. It felt like a combination of a carnival, a community event, and a giant family gathering. I haven’t missed a game since; it’s truly a special experience. The bond between team and fan exists in other sports, but I think it’s strongest in college football.
The excitement of college football games is part of what keeps me coming back every season. I’m able to stay updated on my team’s progress throughout the season and get to cheer them on in person. No matter what happens in the game, I know I’m getting to enjoy something bigger than myself and the team. I’m getting to be part of the game and part of the larger college football community. It’s an amazing feeling.
